COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Homeless Sock Project – Founder
Seven years ago, Monica was inspired by the single socks she was saving in vain waiting for the match to appear in the laundry. She suddenly realized that socks do not have to match to keep your feet warm. Since that time, through the generosity of friends and colleagues, Monica has collected thousands of these otherwise useless “homeless socks” and ensured that they end up on feet and not in the landfill. President; Board of Directors 2019/2020

Columbus Community Center is well known for innovation in helping people with disabilities to live with dignity. Monica worked with Columbus to identify and secure the location of the Hub of Opportunity — a transit-oriented, 200,000 square-foot commercial/residential development that will open in January 2020. Located at 3900 S. W. Temple adjacent to the UTA Meadowbrook TRAX station in South Salt Lake, this innovative project is a community-based, mixed-use development that will bring together a unique combination of community services, workforce development opportunities, and community living for individuals with disabilities. Strategic Planning

Suited for Good – Utah Woolen Mills’ charitable arm, provides custom-tailored suits for worthy individuals who are pursuing self-improvement. “Our program is not about the suit, it’s about empowering the person inside it.” Monica worked with UWM to establish an automated, scalable system for allowing organizations to coordinate getting suits to the people who need them.
